Gingivectomy is a minor surgery that removes gum tissue (gingiva). This procedure has a few indications, but the main one is gingival hyperplasia, which is an abnormal growth of the gums over teeth, sometimes covering them completely. The removal of excess gums improves the appearance of teeth and prevents the presence of micro-spaces for bacterial colonisation.
