Frenectomy (frenulectomy or frenotomy) is the removal of a frenulum, a small fold of tissue that prevents an organ in the body from moving too far. In the mouth there are several frenula that hold the lips and the tongue. If they are too tight and prevent the lips or tongue from moving, or if they are located high between two teeth creating a space, a frenectomy might be indicated.
