Trismus is a condition that is defined by a person that is unable to open the mouth. The main cause of trismus is pericoronitis of wisdom teeth, which is the inflammation of soft tissue around the partially impacted tooth. Another cause of trismus can be dry socket which might occur after tooth extraction. Other reasons of trismus are in temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) and inflammation of muscles of mastication.
