A torus (tori in plural) is a bony growth or bony extension that can be located in the mouth. It can be found either in the palate (torus palatinus), or under and behind the lower teeth along the surface of the tongue (torus mandibularis). The prevalence of tori rages from 9% to 60 % in the palate, and 5% to 40% in the mandible. A torus doesn’t cause any harm to the person, but it could be an obstacle when building dentures.
