Retrognatia or retrognatism, is a condition where either the maxilla or the mandible is positionned backwards compared to a normal position on the skull. It’s a term mostly used in orthodontics and oral and maxillofacial surgery because retrognatia can cause malocclusion, where the upper and lower jaws are not well aligned.
