A mucous cyst, or mucocele is a painless, thin sac on the inner surface of the lips. It can be described by a swelling of tissue consisting of collected mucin due to a ruptured salivary gland duct usually caused by local trauma. The mucocele has a bluish translucent color, and is more commonly found in children and young adults.
